Nothing but Love Quilt Along - Faithful

This week's block, Faithful, is a fun play on a double nine patch. I say a "double" nine patch because the block itself is a nine patch and then there is another nine patch in the center. We are putting this block together with straightforward traditional piecing, and it goes together super quick!

The overall sense of this block is that the hearts are tethered together...like faith. When we are faithful in love then we are always supporting, believing in, and thinking of another person(s)-, our God, our spouse, our child(ren)- and how they are affected by our actions, choices, etc.

In looking at this block and it's different versions, I can see that there are other ways to color this block to make this vision stronger. I may have gotten carried away by my fabric play (it happens). So I am going to present another color possibility, and you decide on a path to follow, and of course you can always follow your own path - just have faith!

Here is the new Spring version (which I love), but now I think I should have used the corner pink in the center too! Oh well nobody knows but me(...and you) and it's still beautiful.

Making the Faithful Block - Tips and Tutorial

As usual I start by cutting out the pieces and laying them out. Then according to the pattern, start by making the corner units (the hearts). You can see how quickly these sew together - join the 2 squares for the left side, press the seam open, and add the rectangle on the right side - and BOOM - done! Press that seam open too. Repeat for all 4 corners.

Then it's on to the center nine patch (chain) unit. I always sew the left sides on to the center pieces first, and then sew on the right side pieces. Press these seams open as well. Then sew the top row on to the center, and then the bottom row, and finish by pressing these seams open. And now you have the cutest little uneven nine patch you've ever seen!

Now let's put them all together for the final nine patch...

Lay out your nine patches (that all measure 4.5") and sew them into rows left side first and then the right. This time press the seams toward the solid piece of fabric - this is the direction the fabric will naturally want to go anyway.

Then sew the rows together - top to center and then add the bottom row. Press theses seams away from the center. This will make your center patch seem slightly sunken in. YES it really is that easy!

**Now pat yourself on the back and be on the look out for a bonus block pattern coming out this week for your pieced border.**
