Nothing but Love Quilt Along - *BONUS* Stitched Together

Updated: Aug 3, 2022

Hi quilting buddies! Ii's time to make the second patch in our border blocks. To keep our quilt-along pace in the "no-stress zone", I am providing the second pattern for the border block patches so you can make a few at a time instead of 16 in one week. The final pattern where the corner patches get made and these other blocks get made will be provided the last week of August.

I love this pieced border for the Nothing but Love Quilt! The idea of stitching around your blocks to keep them all together is just so sweet.

So you have the pattern for making 16 "Cross My Heart" patches and for making 16 "Stitched Together" patches. To complete the borders we will make 4 "Love Knot" patches and then put it all together with some additional joining strips.

The Block Pattern...

In my red and cream quilt, I went for the scrappy border and used 8 red prints and 8 cream and red prints.

With my rainbow version I'm going for a "framed" look, so I chose a neutral pale gray to go with the same cream as I used in the blocks.

I like both options and how it gives each quilt a distinctive and personal look.

This patch also uses the popular stitch and flip method and goes together very quickly.

**There are some differences to note on this pattern - This is only for one part of the actual border block, and since it is an incomplete block I am giving you the unfinished patch size for your little Stitch unit.

To make these units for your quilt, click on the pattern link below, download, and print it (if desired):

Making the Stitched Togther Block - Tips and Tutorial

This patch is pretty simple: one center piece, 2 corners, and 2 border pieces. If you're going scrappy, you may be able to use some leftover pieces from other blocks. You can also layer fabrics to streamline the cutting process.

Make sure you cut enough to make 16 patches. If you are using the same fabric for all the border blocks then you can cut four 2" strips of your main border fabric for the borders (color), two 2.5" strips of your accent border fabric (background/print) which is the center stitch, and one 1.5" strip of main border fabric (color) for your corner squares. You will need to use a small amount of the excess of your 2" strip to make 5-6 of the 1.5" squares for the corners without cutting a second strip. You will then sub-cut the strips into the squares and rectangles needed.

  • Step 1 - Lay out your pieces to verify direction and placement of corner squares.

  • Step 2 - Mark your diagonal lines with a marking utensil or pressed in with the iron.

  • Step 3 - Stitch the new corners on to the center piece. Chain piecing is a great option, so you don't have to cut thread. You can also use these as leaders/enders for other piecing projects.

  • Step 4 - Finish the patch by sewing on the top and bottom borders after pressing your corner seams open and trimming the excess.

Press your seams open and enjoy your little stitch patch!
